VAIL—The U.S. Ski Team began early-season training yesterday on Vail Mountain, and will continue training throughout the month of November as the World Cup season heats up.
Vail Mountain operations teams have taken advantage of natural snowfall last week combined with snowmaking and grooming efforts to prepare the Golden Peak race course for training. Crews have also been making snow on Born Free on the western side of Vail Mountain in preparation for opening day of the resort’s 50th anniversary season on Friday, Nov. 16.
Fans can catch some of their favorite ski racers, including Olympic gold medalists like Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller and Julia Mancuso, up close as the 2013 U.S. Alpine Ski Team is named in Vail on Thursday, Nov. 15. Partake in the live, public celebration starting at 5 p.m. in Arrabelle Square in Lionshead.

Welcome to my December, 2011 Beaver Creek Real Estate Market Update. 2011 will be a solid for the Beaver Creek real estate market. Sales should exceed the total we had in 2010. Prices dropped over the course of the year but appear to be stabilizing. Click on the links below to take a look.
The Birds of Prey World Cup Races in Beaver Creek were a great success. Bode won the downhill, Ted Ligety won a giant slalom and was second in another one, and Lindsay Vonn won a super giant slalom that was rescheduled to Beaver Creek due to a lack of snow in France.
Best Wishes and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
It was an absolutely spectacular day in Beaver Creek today. Lindsay Vonn skied and won the first women’s World Cup Super Giant Slalom held on the Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek, Colorado. This is typically the men’s course but the women were rerouted here due to a lack of snow in France.
I was lucky enough to be working security in the finish area and watched the race. What was amazing about Lindsay’s run was that she actually won the race on the bottom third of the hill, a section where no other racers seemed to pick up speed.
Lindsay started well, fell behind, but was fast going into the flats. Honestly, we all thought Lindsay had lost the race at that point.
Somehow, she picked up speed and finished in 1st place. Amazing. I guess that is what makes her the best woman skier in the world.
Afterward she graciously attended all the interviews (see the photo below). There were hordes of kids and adults waiting for her after the interviews for autographs. The photos below show the kids waiting and Lindsay working her way down the line signing the autographs. What a world-class athlete and human being.
